Ancient Egypt, a land of majesty and intrigue, is disappearing in a ruthless struggle for power. Uncover its dark secrets and forgotten myths as you return to the moment of its founding: The origins of the Brotherhood of Assassins await you in Assassin's Creed Origins.
A Prequel to the Assassin-Templar Conflict
Assassin's Creed Origins will serve as a prequel to the series, depicting the origins of the struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace through liberty, and the Templars, who desire peace through order. The story takes place during the Ptolemaic dynasty under Cleopatra's reign in Ancient Egypt and follows the adventures of Bayek, a Medjay who stands against those trying to corrupt Egyptian civilization. The game will have a greater emphasis on RPG elements, as shown in the extended gameplay footage where Bayek returns to his hometown, a dusty settlement with a well-guarded fortress.
Upon reaching the fortress, Bayek uses an eagle as a drone-like reconnaissance tool to survey the area from above, marking guards and locating his target. The assassin then scales the fortress walls, leaps onto a tree, and finally drops down to eliminate a guard in slow motion. Among the new gameplay dynamics in Assassin's Creed Origins are a menu with multiple slots for Bayek's equipment, experience points for defeating enemies, a bow that fires multiple arrows, and a first-person mode to guide the arrow's trajectory.
Additional Features and Release Details
Another novelty is that Assassin's Creed Origins features a compass similar to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at the top of the screen instead of a minimap. Amidst a montage of gameplay scenes, you can spot numerous wild animals (including a hippopotamus), Bayek swimming (possibly in the Mediterranean Sea), a gladiator arena, naval combat, and raids on pharaoh tombs. Assassin's Creed Origins is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting October 27, 2017.
