There's little left to say about the Assassin's Creed saga at this point. With a total of 23 games (one of them on the way), millions of fans around the world, and a movie (which, of course, critics destroyed), it is undeniably one of Ubisoft's most successful franchises. But there's something that sets its last two installments apart from the rest: the so-called Discovery Tour, a sort of "educational mode" that lets us explore Ancient Egypt (Origins) and Ancient Greece (Odyssey) without the risk of being sliced up or devoured by an enemy. The best part? Both are free to download until the 21st of this month.
Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey have been very well received by critics. They are also known for being particularly brutal on some computers due to their high frequency and IPC demands, but with a couple of years on their shoulders, both managed to eliminate the vast majority of their technical problems. As expected, Ubisoft released a series of DLCs to expand and enrich the original stories, but there's something more: Discovery Tour.
Discovery Tour: Learn About Greece and Egypt with Assassin's Creed
In essence, Discovery Tour is an "educational mode" that disables the games' stories, side quests, conflicts with enemies, time limits, and other classic restrictions associated with each playthrough. The player becomes a tourist willing to explore Egypt, with a total of 75 tours, and Greece, through 29 regions. Life, philosophy, customs, myths, and famous places are part of Discovery Tour, but the story doesn't end there.
Both modes are available independently, and recognizing the need to maintain social distancing measures, Ubisoft has decided to enable the download of Discovery Tour Egypt and Discovery Tour Greece for free until May 21. All you have to do is create a Ubisoft account (if you try to use other compatible credentials, it will only associate them), and download a copy of the UPlay client. The idea of installing "another client" may not appeal to some readers, but those are Ubisoft's rules.
Remember, this will be valid until May 21 (check the official page for the exact local time). Personally, I think it's an excellent opportunity. The standalone versions of Discovery Tour are usually very expensive, and even if you're not that interested in the historical factor, nothing stops you from using both titles as a sort of benchmark.
