If you're into creating spaceships and then taking part in intergalactic missions, then Defect is the game you need. Through a creation system, you can build piece by piece the ship you've always wanted to pilot and fight in space battles.
Defect is the upcoming space game focused on ship creation and intergalactic battles. Offering unprecedented freedom in creation, players can build the most powerful ships in the galaxy through a simple construction system. To do this, Defect will feature hundreds of parts across three stylistic themes that reference a wide range of science fiction culture, with Star Trek being a notable reference. This system allows you to build piece by piece from a simple fighter to a space station the size of a small moon.
Consequences of Your Ship Design
So far nothing unusual, but the interesting thing about Defect is that depending on the type of ship you build, there can be consequences that might work against you. For example, if you create a powerful space cruiser that easily eliminates any enemy ship, your crew will be aware of it and might mutiny, steal the cruiser, and leave you stranded in the middle of space. The interface, as you can see in the video below, is quite pleasant, and allows you to choose from various parts organized into categories such as weapons and engines.
Missions, Funding, and Availability
Once you have your ship built, it's time to fight. Defect lets you choose from several types of missions that will take you across the galaxy, whether to destroy enemy ships, capture space stations, or respond to help requests from ships that are stranded or under attack. The game needs $40,000 to be funded through the Kickstarter site and, as usual, all those who support the project with a donation will be rewarded with copies of the game, signed art, and t-shirts, among other gifts. Defect is being developed by Three Phase Interative and will be available on Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS and Android systems. The game doesn't have a specific release date, but it's expected to arrive on Steam before the end of 2015.
