If you are one of those people who has ever tried using the shortcut “Ctrl + Z” in real life, rest assured you do not have any kind of disorder; you just spend too many hours in front of the computer. But how many of us have ever thought about extracting text from an image we are seeing on the screen and taking it to a word processor with a simple click? For that task, we have found “Easy Screen OCR”, a program that can extract and edit text from a screenshot.
Once you take a screenshot with the platform, a window will open, where you will get a preview of the captured image. Now you only need one click to extract the text from the capture, copy it to the clipboard, and paste it wherever you want. The utility gives you the option to edit the text before copying it.
The platform is free and available for Windows operating systems. After installing it, you will see the Easy Screen OCR icon in the system tray; with the auxiliary mouse button you will enable preferences, from there you will select a shortcut key to capture the snapshot and enable the option to save the capture as PNG and PDF.
At this point you are all set to start extracting text from screenshots. First you take the capture (with the shortcut key) and with the mouse cursor you select the text to extract. Then you will see a window open at the bottom right of your screen; the conversation box will have a thumbnail of the snapshot and an “OCR” button. Click the button and the environment will start extracting the text. The plain text will be available in the dialog box and before copying it, you can edit it.
What is OCR technology?
Easy Screen OCR uses OCR technology to extract the text from a capture. OCR is a procedure that allows digitizing text through a scanner (in our case, a capture). The technology recognizes characters as part of an alphabet. This way, the processed document can be edited like a word processor.
The big difference of Easy Screen OCR compared to other similar platforms is its special OCR function and the ability to edit the text. In our tests everything worked perfectly.
