It is undoubtedly one of the oldest complaints among Facebook users. The lack of a mechanism to express dislike on a message or post led Zuckerberg and company to experiment with alternatives, but they never delivered a real "Dislike" button. However, that could change in Messenger. The social network is currently evaluating a new Reactions section in the messenger, and the Dislike button is there.
A long-awaited feature
Not everything on Facebook is pleasant. In fact, I think very few posts truly meet that condition. That makes it easy to understand why Mark Zuckerberg and his team resist the existence of a Dislike button. If the social network depended on the quality of its content, with the constant political bombardment and fake news, it would fall apart. The Reactions system was installed as a direct alternative to the Dislike button, and although it doesn't deliver what users want, it has its uses. The next step for Facebook is to bring Reactions to Messenger, and the first beta testers discovered a small addition they quickly dubbed "Dislike".
How it works in Messenger
From a technical standpoint, Facebook sees the "Like / Dislike" combo more as a "Yes / No" that should optimize chat dynamics in Messenger. Instead of having to reply to each message manually, users expand the Reactions menu associated with each message and choose what they want to express. Facebook is taking the rollout of Reactions in Messenger very slowly. For now, the number of users with access is very low, and the social network will keep it that way until it decides to extend it to the entire service, or why not, cancel it.
And what about the standard experience? Nothing. The Reactions available on the web portal remain the same, and the Dislike button is conspicuously absent. Of course, nothing is definitive...
