The western genre has been revitalized thanks to hits like Yellowstone, which went on to get two prequels, and has confirmed a sequel and two additional spinoffs. But Netflix wants to step into that ring, and offers us American Primeval, with a much, much darker tone. Written by Mark L. Smith (who developed The Revenant alongside Alejandro González Iñárritu), and directed by Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Deepwater Horizon), American Primeval reminds us with its trailer that the American expansion westward was anything but peaceful.
