Technically, this is the second adaptation of the novel The Amateur, written by Robert Littell in 1981. The difference is that we no longer have the Iron Curtain, but the starting point is the same: A CIA cryptographer, Charles Heller (Rami Malek), loses his wife in a terrorist attack. Determined to seek revenge, his colleagues reject the idea of training him to hunt the terrorists, but Heller is very good at his job, much more than they imagine.
