GTA2 RTX Remix is an open-source Direct3D 9 renderer project by gebdag that connects Grand Theft Auto 2 to RTX Remix. It translates the game’s lighting, adds lights triggered by events such as explosions and gunfire, and supplies emissive maps for some textures. The project also supports 16:9, while dynamic time of day is a Remix Plus feature.

A Direct3D 9 bridge to RTX Remix

The project’s custom renderer adapts Grand Theft Auto 2’s Direct3D 9 graphics for RTX Remix. Its two listed components are gta2dx9.dll, the renderer, and gta2dx9_vid.dll, a video-device shim.

In addition to translating the game’s existing lights, the mod adds lights for events such as explosions, fires and gunfire. Emissive maps are supplied for selected textures. The in-game settings panel opens with F4 and includes lighting and time-of-day controls; dynamic time of day is specifically a Remix Plus feature.

Widescreen and frame generation

GTA2 RTX Remix supports a full 16:9 view. The project says this prevents cars and pedestrians from popping in at the edges of the screen. It also says frame generation can make 60 fps possible—a stated capability, rather than a particular performance result for every PC.

Requirements and demonstration

Gameplay footage shows Grand Theft Auto 2 in widescreen, including the in-game F4 settings panel.

The project lists a copy of GTA2, the RTX Remix runtime and 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 as requirements. It was built and tested against GTA2 v9.6, and is released under the MIT license.
