In this article we will show you the steps to convert an animated SVG to an animated GIF, giving you a solid technique for a conversion that has few options on the Internet.
The method we will use is screen recording for the conversion to animated GIF, and to do that we will use LICEcap, a program that captures in animated GIF.
LICEcap offers a simple environment for capturing the screen in animated GIF format. At this point we have to open our animated SVG file in any web browser and adjust the size of the LICEcap window to match the animated SVG running in the browser. We can do this by entering the ratio from the Size option in the lower-left corner, or by dragging the edges of the window with the mouse. We also need to determine the frames per second from FPS. We recommend setting the same frames as the original file (the animated GIF).
Now you just need to record the screen. To do that, click the Record… button in the lower-right corner.
You will need to set the output format (GIF), the title, whether you want transparency, repetition, and whether you want the file to stop at the end or loop, among other options.
The only problem we found with this method is that you have to stop the screen recording at the same time the animated SVG ends, by clicking Stop, so that the conversion of animated SVG to animated GIF has the same duration.
