Flippity is a free extension for Google Chrome that lets you create a spinning wheel with custom data in Google Sheets. You simply select a template from the extension, customize it, and then publish it to your website, blog, or social network.
Flippity offers 19 templates for various games (Crossword maker, Flashcard maker, Typing test, word search, etc.) that you can easily and freely install on your site.
How to create a random selector in Google Sheets?
- Step 1: First, install the add-on in Google Sheets. Once done, open a new spreadsheet tab.
- Step 2: In the Google Sheets document, accept the extension's permissions. Then you can connect Flippity to your Gmail account. That's it! We can now start working.
- Step 3: To get a template, go to “Add-ons – Flippity – Pick a Template”. There, select the template “Flippity Random Name Picker” and you'll see the template load into your spreadsheet.
Note: The pop-up that appears to insert the URL into your website should be closed; because you first need to make the necessary changes to turn this “random name selector” into a wheel of fortune.
- Step 4: In the template you'll find two columns, “Name” and “Photo”. In the names column, you can write whatever you want in each cell. For example, the amount of money to win or the description of the prize (you can add more than the 16 cells provided by the add-on).
- Step 5: Once you've customized the template, you can publish it to your site. To do so, click on “File - Publish to the web”. In the pop-up window, just click “Publish”. Now, you'll need to go to “Add-ons - Flippity - Flippity.net URL” and get the URL of the wheel of fortune.
Now you have everything ready to spin the wheel on your website or social networks.
At the top of your publication you'll see the prizes or player names. And at the end of the menu there's a timer to set a playing time. You can also split the players or prizes into groups (or teams) of 2, 3, 4, and 5 and see them reflected in the publication.
With this selector wheel, you can get random results to build a wheel of fortune or any other game involving a spinning wheel.
