How to Easily Delete Temporary Files from an Entire Disk

Deleting temporary files is an almost ancestral practice among maintenance sessions. While not without its detractors, basically what is sought is to eliminate waste with the potential to become a future conflict, and recover storage space, something vital on all those computers with integrated SSDs of 32 gigabytes and humble hard drives. Alternate Directory is a tool that will help you delete a wide variety of temporary files, but it requires a little extra attention in its advanced cleaning modes.

More than once we have highlighted Windows's tendency to "drag itself". The latest version of the operating system is no exception, and complaints about the disk space consumed or occupied memory multiply. However, the Redmond giant is not the only one trapped in that labyrinth. Many programs generate temporary files and unnecessary backups during installation. Several portals insist that it is not a good idea to delete temporary files because it could cause problems, and they do not hesitate to talk about the abundance of storage (in other words, "if you don't have space, buy a disk"). The problem is that temporary files are precisely that: Temporary. Once they finish their work, they should disappear. And they don't.

How to delete temporary files with Alternate Directory

So we come to the doors of Alternate Directory. The tool's only role is to locate and delete a large number of temporary files with preloaded extensions. The program can perform this task on a specific folder, or reach an entire disk. In the options section, Alternate Directory allows us to exclude folders or clean them completely, but the most important thing is in the file extensions tab. There the identification of temporary files is established, and it is divided into three categories: Standard, Advanced which enables darker extensions, and Critical, the most dangerous of the three. The program warns that the Critical category deletes documents and images, so be careful.

The last option is what Alternate Directory should do when it finishes deleting temporary files. The factory setting is "nothing," but if you deem it necessary, you can order it to close, or shut down the computer. The program is free, was recently updated, and although it does not have a portable version, the executable takes up less than one megabyte. Its only weak point is its translation into Spanish. We appreciate the effort, but it must improve.
