DroidDeck runs compatible Steam games directly on Android, using Valve’s Linux Steam client in Big Picture mode; root access is not required. Version 0.6.0, released October 22, 2026, added experimental Xbox and PC Game Pass access, an itch.io store, configurable touch gestures and video for Steam Remote Play. Whether a game runs well still depends on the device, graphics drivers and title.

DroidDeck runs games locally, while Remote Play streams

With DroidDeck’s local mode, the Android device runs the game through Steam and its compatibility tools. Proton helps run Windows games, while FEX translates x86 and x64 instructions for ARM hardware. That shifts the main constraint from a host PC to the Android device and the game’s compatibility.

Steam Link streams a game from a computer over a network. DroidDeck 0.6.0 also supports Steam Remote Play, a separate streaming feature that can send video, audio and input.

Check your device and storage before installing

The project’s installation guide specifies Android 9 or newer and an ARM64 device. It lists Adreno 730+ or Adreno 8xx GPUs, while the project’s compatibility information also lists selected Adreno 650 and Adreno 660 devices as playable. Check the device-specific compatibility list for your exact model rather than relying on a single GPU-family cutoff.

The guide recommends about 4.5 GB of free space for its setup checklist. It estimates the Linux runtime at about 3 GB and an optional desktop package at about 1.1 GB; game files need additional storage. DroidDeck’s 0.3.2 release notes also say SD cards and external drives can hold full Steam libraries. Internet access is needed for the initial runtime, Steam client and game downloads.

Install DroidDeck in the documented order

DroidDeck’s official installation guide describes this sequence. A Steam account and a compatible game are also needed to test the setup.

  1. Install the APK. Download and sideload the DroidDeck APK. The project says root access is not required.
  2. Adjust the Android process setting if needed. On Android 12 or newer, if Steam exits unexpectedly, open Developer Options and turn off “Restrict child processes.”
  3. Install the Linux runtime. Start DroidDeck and download its approximately 3 GB runtime. The desktop package is optional.
  4. Launch Steam. Select the option to start Steam. On first launch, Steam client files are fetched from Valve.
  5. Sign in. Enter your Steam account credentials in Big Picture mode.
  6. Install and launch a compatible game. Choose a title from your library, install it, then try launching it on the device.

You have a working setup when Steam opens in Big Picture and the chosen game launches. That check applies to the game you tried; it does not establish that every title in your library will work.

What DroidDeck 0.6.0 adds

The 0.6.0 release notes describe Xbox and PC Game Pass integration as experimental. It also adds an itch.io store, configurable touch gestures such as taps, holds and multi-finger drags, and video streaming through Steam Remote Play. Store access does not ensure that every listed game will run on a particular device.

The release notes say games using Easy Anti-Cheat can start without the anti-cheat bootstrapper when played offline. Online modes that require Easy Anti-Cheat remain unavailable through that workaround.

One reported test gives a high-end reference

In an October 18, 2026 report, Xataka described results from ETA PRIME’s test on a RedMagic 11 Pro with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and 16 GB of RAM. The games ran at 720p. These are results from that specific setup, not a performance guarantee for other Android devices.
