IGN reported on October 21, 2026, that the Mass Effect television series remained in development at Amazon MGM Studios, citing unnamed sources inside Prime Video. Those sources also said the creatives attached to the project remained onboard.

What the development report says

The report describes the television adaptation, a project separate from BioWare’s game development. Its account of the series’ status comes from unnamed Prime Video sources, not a public announcement from Amazon.

As of August 2025, IGN listed Doug Jung as showrunner and Daniel Casey as writer. It also named Karim Zreik, Mike Gamble and Ari Arad among the production team. The October 2026 report said the attached creatives remained onboard, but did not provide a newly updated roster.

Daniel Casey had described a script and outline

In a statement posted in late 2024, writer Daniel Casey said the project had a pilot script and a series outline. LevelUp reported that statement in July 2025. It is a dated account of earlier writing progress, distinct from the later report about the series remaining in development.

The reported setting and production timeline

Earlier reporting described the adaptation as taking place after the original Mass Effect trilogy, rather than retelling Commander Shepard’s origin story.

IGN said a Q4 2026 production start had been eyed at one point. Its October 21 report did not give a current production schedule, and it reported no release date as of that day.
