The apocalypse came unexpectedly. Humans turned into zombies, and now the world is caught in a war between four factions: zombies, dogs, rats, and cats. In the midst of it all is Max, a kitten who must rescue his beloved Maya. That is the delirious premise of Max&Maya, a cat simulator with RPG elements where you must fight for your territory.
A Post-Apocalyptic World
A battle between good and evil is underway. Four factions are fighting for world domination: cats, dogs, rats, and zombies. Max, a cat, must rescue his beloved Maya. Set in a post-apocalyptic open world, you take on the role of Max, who must complete a series of missions that involve battling zombies, dogs, and rats, tearing down their fortresses while defending his own home.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, Max is armed with melee attacks that the developers call “cat fu,” an allusion to the Chinese martial arts. You can also cast magic spells, but to launch, for example, a fireball, you must use the microphone to speak the incantation. Alongside combat, Max&Maya also incorporates pet simulation elements in the style of a tamagotchi: Max has a son at home, whom you'll need to spend time caring for. This is crucial because while you're out on missions, your son will defend the house fortress and keep enemies at bay.
Crowdfunding and Release
Max&Maya is the first game from indie studio OMG Studios, which just launched a funding campaign on Kickstarter. The game needs $75,000 to be funded, and all contributors will receive gifts such as a copy of the game, the soundtrack, and concept art, among other rewards. Max&Maya is being developed by OMG Studios and will be available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The game has no concrete release date yet, but it is expected to arrive on Steam from the second quarter of 2019.
