After the death of her wife, Elana begins to be stalked by a mysterious supernatural entity. It will be up to you to help her escape its clutches or fall at its feet in Morph Girl, an FMV game inspired by 1990s Japanese horror.
A Widow's Haunted Home
Elana Pierce is a grieving widow who can't move on after the tragic death of her wife, Rebecca. To make matters worse, a mysterious supernatural being has descended upon her lonely home, toying with the memories of her deceased wife. Now Elana must decide whether to accept or reject the creature. That's the premise of Morph Girl, an FMV game inspired by 1990s Japanese horror that aims to evoke the most personal fears surrounding the presence of the unknown in the home.
VHS-Style Interactive Horror
Inspired by homemade VHS tapes, Morph Girl's narrative also has the potential to dig a little deeper, touching on depression and loss with the literal and figurative demons that tend to accompany those darker emotions. Immerse yourself in Elana's world through real-world images evoking family VHS tapes in her home. The gameplay will let you make decisions that alter the course of the story, as well as past events. The choices you make throughout the story will help or hinder the protagonist's struggle with her own mental health and the dark figure stalking her. Depending on these branches, you can unlock one of six different endings to find a conclusion to the story of Morph Girl and Elana.
History has shown us that well-made FMV can be excellent, yet the games that filled the genre in the nineties are clear examples of the opposite (and if you don't remember, just think of Night Trap and Phantasmagoria). For now, it seems that Morph Girl's story is intentionally raw to reflect its homage to B-movies like Ringu and The Grudge, something that genre fans will surely appreciate. Morph Girl is being developed by Jordan Doyle and will be available on Windows starting August 30, 2017.
