Creating a folder in Windows is no mystery: right-click, New, Folder, and that's it. But imagine having to create dozens of new folders. Unless you want to repeat the process with the mouse or press Ctrl+Shift+N until you're exhausted, the logical thing would be to adopt an automatic solution. That's where New Folder Wizard, a small tool that, although it no longer has active development, still works wonders even on the latest edition of Windows 10.
The classic Windows interface has served us well over the years, but that doesn't mean it's free of limitations. Some tasks would be easier for the user with an automation component, however, Microsoft seems to have other priorities. The solution? External software. Tools made by third parties. The case of file management is very special: we recently reviewed alternatives like Tablacus Explorer, and it would be a mistake to ignore the so-called "clones" of the old Norton Commander (Double Commander and Multi Commander are the first that come to mind).
Now, let's think about creating folders. Multiple folders. More than would be tolerable manually. Do you want to separate your photos with dedicated folders for each month? Do you have a long list of clients and their data should be stored under the format of "one subfolder per name"? Doing that with File Explorer would take a long time, but there is another option: New Folder Wizard.
How New Folder Wizard works
New Folder Wizard requires no installation. In fact, its executable does not exceed 200 kilobytes, but it gives us all the functions needed to automate folder creation. The most important section of the program is the one that establishes the properties of the folders to create. The prefix and suffix fields define the beginning and end of the names that the folders will carry, while the central value is numeric, compatible with a range from 0 to 20,000, and custom steps. In other words, New Folder Wizard will allow you to create up to 20,000 folders per click.
Using a text file as a source
The software offers a second resource, which is using a text file as a "source" for folder names. Imagine a .txt file full of first and last names. If we put a check in the "Use text file for folder names" box, its content will be transformed into folders. You just have to make sure the text file has one name per line.
