In this article about the best developers we will talk about Oracle Corporation, one of the most important companies in the world of computing. Although its best-known platform is Oracle Database, the corporation also has other powerful tools.
The history of Oracle Corporation
In 1977, the Silicon Valley engineers Larry Ellison, Ed Oates, and Bob Miner founded the company Software Development Laboratories (a consultancy). Within a few months, they secured an important contract with the CIA to develop a database system in code called "Oracle". The corporation is looking for a product compatible with IBM's SQL and in this way take over the personal computer market (a market ignored by IBM).
After changing its name to Relational Software Incorporated (1978) and Oracle Systems Corporation (1982), that same year the name we know the company by today was born: "Oracle Corporation". The following year the company launched its first database system "Oracle V3" (transaction management using COMMIT and ROLLBACK instructions), the tool is available for Digital VAX/VMS and Unix platforms. But with the rise of networks, the company launches Oracle V5 which presents as its main feature the Client/Server function.
In 1992, Oracle V7h (data warehouse) was launched, the complete database. This version's main feature is the storage and execution of applications written in PL/SQL (within the database engine).
Then the Oracle V8 versions were launched, supporting object-oriented development and the storage and execution of multimedia content. In 1999, the Oracle 8i version was developed, incorporating Internet requirements and the Java Virtual Machine engine. In 2001, Oracle 9i was presented to the market, incorporating Virtual Databases. In 2003, the Oracle 10g version, and in 2007 the latest version of its Oracle 11g Database was reached.
Other Oracle Corporation platforms
Since 2005 the company began developing and acquiring large applications (like Sun, the most well-known), such as Oracle Designer, a powerful tool for designing business models, to design and deliver scalable systems (client/server).
JDeveloper is an integrated development environment for Java, HTML, XML, SQL, PL/SQL, JavaScript, PHP, Oracle ADF, UML, and so on. Today Oracle Corporation has a large number of applications focused on small and large businesses. If we talk about Databases, without a doubt one of the pioneering companies is Oracle Corporation.
