Sword published PS5SX2 2.00, build vk-285-139, on October 8, 2026. The community-developed PS2 emulator adds experimental frame generation, an 8x resolution option for PS5 Pro, and more ways to select game and BIOS folders. It is homebrew software, not an official Sony PS5 feature. The project release lists the update’s features.

PS5SX2 2.00 adds experimental frame generation

On a 120 Hz TV, PS5SX2 2.00 can display a steady 60 fps game at 120 fps, or a steady 30 fps game at 60 fps, using experimental frame generation. The game’s own rate remains 60 or 30 frames per second; the higher figure describes the frames delivered to the screen.

That distinction matters: 120 fps on the display does not mean the game is rendering or simulating 120 new frames each second. The project says its FPS display counts the frames received by the TV, and the feature operates while the game’s frame rate remains steady.

PS5 Pro resolution and storage options

The release lists an 8x resolution option for PS5 Pro. It is an option, not a promise that every game will sustain a particular performance level.

Game and BIOS folders can be selected from USB drives, extended storage, and M.2 storage. A separate option lets the emulator access games hosted on a PC or NAS through Network File System (NFS); the project labels that feature experimental.

Other changes in the 2.00 release

The update also lists multi-disc support, cheat-disc handling, patch and cheat downloads, per-game hardware fixes, and RetroAchievements challenge icons. Other listed options include overlays, ELF homebrew, host filesystem access, fast boot, and the PS2 system menu. The release also lists faster performance for CPU-drawing games including Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Jak 3, and Driv3r.

Sword announced the update on October 8, 2026, the same date as the project release. The post presents the headline features; the release notes describe frame generation as experimental.
