This coming Saturday, the doors of the Tokyo Game Show 2016 will open to the public, and we already have a good idea of what we'll find in its halls. Naturally, Capcom is there, along with its next entry in the saga Resident Evil. Almost a month ago, we took a close look at the trailer known as Lantern but now we have the second 'reel' that reveals a bit more about what the main character (and by extension, the player) will experience in that terrifying house…
What word could we use to describe the new Resident Evil 7 trailer? We have several options at our disposal, but after having played the video a couple of times, I think I'll go with cannibalism. From the famous "green soup" with hands and bones intended for Thulsa Doom's servants in "Conan the Barbarian" to Hannibal Lecter himself, human flesh has taken on the role of "glue" to unite the grotesque, the repulsive, and the absolutely horrifying. Apparently, the inhabitants of the house that will serve as the main setting of Resident Evil 7 have developed a certain "palate" that favors human entrails, and they have a dinner guest: You.
Meet the Baker family. Lucas, Marguerite, and Jack. I'm afraid there isn't enough information about the... lady on the left, but I imagine she must be the 'grandmother' Baker, or at least what remains of her. Both the Resident Evil wiki and the new update for the Beginning Hour demo have shared extra data on the Bakers. They all appear to be "infected" in some way, and possess great strength (the last time I saw a zombie break through a wall was with the Tyrant T-00 from RE2), but they retain their mental faculties (always assuming from the start that they're missing more than a few screws), and they show great interest in adding Ethan as a "member of the family"… whatever that means.
The official release date for Resident Evil 7 remains intact for January 24, while in Japanese territory it will be the 26th. The only major news is that Capcom confirmed a $10 price increase for the so-called Deluxe Edition, going from $79.99 to $89.99. This is because that edition will have a third additional episode (two had been planned), and those who have already pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition at the old price will receive that episode at no charge. Four months remain, and something tells me we'll see many more Resident Evil 7 trailers. I just hope they don't end up narrating the entire game with them.
