But today it's the turn of Solitaire for Windows, or rather, a collection with more than 200 Solitaire variants, available in the Patience application. Originally designed for older versions of Windows, Patience works perfectly on Windows 10 and 11, without ads or pop-ups.
The Windows Solitaire is nothing more than a digital version of the variant known as Klondike. Its history dates back to 1988, when it was created by Wes Cherry, while the card design belongs to Susan Kare, one of the masterminds behind the Apple Macintosh. The story goes that Cherry tried to include a boss key in the final version that simulated an Excel screen, but he was asked to remove it.
Patience: More than 200 Versions of Solitaire for Windows
Its enormous popularity gave rise to all kinds of alternative developments, with classic and unknown versions alike, but today I would like to mention one of the most complete, called Patience. Created by David Mayne, this application contains more than 200 variants of Solitaire for Windows, from the aforementioned Klondike to FreeCell, passing through the excellent Black Hole, the Russian Solitaire, and many others that definitely need a review of their rules.
Beyond the sound that catches us off guard when opening Patience, there isn't much to configure. The entire interface is in English, but that's not a serious problem. Patience has a registration system for your games, highlighting everything you've played and won in each variant. It also enables several modifications to its appearance, including background color, card movement, and the animation that plays when you win a game.
Patience development ended with version 2.51, but despite the lack of official support, it is very stable on Windows 10 and Windows 11. In fact, its installation doesn't exceed 20 megabytes, which makes it an excellent option for playing on more modest computers. In short, if you want an overdose of Solitaire for Windows or someone constantly asks you to install it on their computer, download Patience.
