It seems that the big powers in Hollywood will enjoy a good end of the year, thanks to the positive balance of certain blockbusters (Gladiator II, Moana 2, and the first part of Wicked). However, that means the rest of the releases must stand out somehow. Sony Pictures Entertainment has Kraven the Hunter on its horizon, but instead of resorting to another trailer, it decided to change its strategy and release the first eight minutes of the film on YouTube.
A transparent marketing move
From a certain point of view, it makes sense. “Bad” trailers are often accused of “showing too much” or “deceiving” the public with scenes that don’t make the final cut. By openly sharing its opening, Sony injects a bit of transparency, and the final decision is up to the consumer.
What the opening reveals
Being honest, the eight minutes fly by, but they show enough to establish Kraven as someone with superhuman abilities. The rest remains in shadows: Why does he pretend to be a prisoner to eliminate a gangster in the middle of nowhere? Who assists him in his escape with the plane? And of course, how is it that no one notices the replacement in the bus, or at the moment of entering the penitentiary? We’ll have to see the whole film to get more answers… (December 13).
