Stanley Martin Lieber, known as Stan Lee, passed away today, Monday, at the age of 95. He was a writer and editor, co-founder of Marvel Comics and co-creator of iconic characters such as Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Avengers, Fantastic Four and Daredevil.
The news was confirmed by the TMZ portal on both its website and Twitter. According to TMZ, this Monday morning it was reported that an ambulance had made an emergency call to Lee's residence in Hollywood Hills to take him to a nearby hospital, where his death was announced after a few minutes. Stan Lee had been suffering from pneumonia and his health had weakened over the past year.
Lee began Marvel Comics with Jack Kirby in 1961. He is known for having co-created iconic comic book characters such as Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Fantastic Four, though the title of "creator" or sole creator is also questioned, as he had several disputes with his former colleagues Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko regarding the credit Lee claimed for his team's work.
On his official Twitter account, Stan's last tweet was yesterday, Sunday the 11th.
