First there was the trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and now it's the turn of the next game in the Battlefront series. This third installment, titled simply Star Wars: Battlefront, returns totally renewed, and here we show you how the game looks in action.
The Return of a Classic
It has been ten years since the release of Star Wars: Battlefront II on PlayStation 2, Xbox, Windows and PSP. This series of first- and third-person shooters revolves around two teams, the Republic and the CIS or the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, fighting each other across various maps. The settings are recreated both on land and in space battles, where you can relive the best battles as they appeared in George Lucas's Star Wars films. This time DICE finally shows us a trailer with the gameplay of the third installment:
Multiplayer at its Core
To start, Star Wars: Battlefront will not have a single-player campaign, being an exclusively multiplayer game both online and local split-screen. In the trailer you can see that the game incorporates elements from previous games such as the ability to play as the most memorable heroes and villains of the galaxy, like Darth Vader and Boba Fett, and space battles piloting TIE fighters or the Millennium Falcon. The icy planet Hoth and the forest moon of Endor will be playable maps along with the desert Tatooine and the unexplored planet Sullust. In fact, this title will only contain elements from the original trilogy, leaving out all content from episodes I, II and III.
A Fresh Start
Although those players who pre-order the game will be able to enjoy the Battle of Jakku, the planet where the Star Destroyer we saw in the recent trailer of The Force Awakens is crash-landed, so it is possible that in the future we will see more downloadable content related to the new Star Wars movie. Graphically, Star Wars: Battlefront looks incredible thanks to the Frostbite 3 engine that perfectly recreates the models of characters, vehicles and scenarios. DICE points out that this game will not be a sequel to Battlefront II, but rather a reboot of the franchise. We hope the Force is with it. Star Wars: Battlefront is being developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows starting November 17, 2015.
