Star Wars VR: Star Wars in Virtual Reality. We Need This.

It's that simple, without mincing words or superficial explanations. If virtual reality wants any measure of success in the near future, it must bring a Star Wars game along. It doesn't matter who develops it: it needs to be perfect, and it must be based on the classic trilogy. What you are about to see is a short film created by HammerheadVR, and its graphics are powered by Unreal Engine 4. Death Star, Hoth, Cloud City, Endor. It's a demon whispering in our ears... and we want more.

Disney better pick up the gauntlet. Fans are still arguing about everything that will and won't be in Battlefront, which gives a brief respite. However, the most famous mouse's corporation cannot escape the fact that several games will be necessary, whose quality must be superlative. “Hey, no pressure!” some will say. “But Star Wars has good games!” others will say. It's true, certain titles under the Star Wars name deserve all our respect: X-Wing, TIE Fighter, the Dark Forces, the Jedi Knight, the KOTOR... and I'm sure I've forgotten several (as always, the comments are open). But there are two magic words floating in the air: virtual reality. And if the Star Wars universe doesn't officially jump on that train, I'll have a nervous breakdown.

The folks at HammerheadVR decided to partially fill the void and created the short titled Star Wars VR. The sounds and soundtrack were extracted from the movies (which prevents its presence on YouTube due to copyright issues), and I'm sure the textures under Unreal Engine 4 could be more detailed, but imagining this content viewed with the assistance of an Oculus Rift or another virtual headset leaves us very excited. Obviously, a theoretical Star Wars game in virtual reality would require extreme attention to detail, accompanied by a solid storyline, and respect for the canon.

The problem is... waiting. Star Wars VR is still a fan film, and it runs the risk of being bombarded in the name of intellectual property by Disney's lawyers. Even so, HammerheadVR has said they plan to have a playable demo when the Oculus Rift becomes available on the market. By then, the Star Wars universe will be a paradise, or a true hell...
