To celebrate 30 years of the Street Fighter franchise, iam8bit and Capcom have joined forces to re-release the classic Street Fighter II: The World Warrior as SNES cartridges. Here are all the details about this double limited edition, which will be available at the end of the year.
On August 30, the original Street Fighter turned 30. To celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Capcom has partnered with iam8bit to re-release Street Fighter II (30th Anniversary Edition) on SNES cartridges. This re-release comes in two limited editions totaling 5,500 units. The first is "Opaque Ryu Headband Red", a tribute to Ryu with a run of 4,500 red cartridges, and the other is "Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green", a tribute to Blanka with only 1,000 translucent green cartridges.
Released in 1991 for arcades and later adapted to nearly every platform on the market, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior revolutionized fighting games in arcades. This re-release of Street Fighter II (30th Anniversary Edition) comes with a special commemorative design for the franchise's 30th anniversary on the cartridges, a special edition box, a premium manual, and a package with retro items. Without a doubt, a true collector's relic.
It's worth noting that this edition will only work on the North American version of the SNES, although the iam8bit site recommends not using it, as it "may cause the SNES hardware to overheat or catch fire" — so it's recommended to exercise "extreme caution" when using this "vintage collectible". Unfortunately, you won't be able to choose which cartridge you get, as the boxes are all identical and sealed, making it more a matter of chance than anything else. Street Fighter II (30th Anniversary Edition) will be available for $100, and if you're interested, pre-orders are open now, with games scheduled to ship in November 2017.
