Capcom is preparing the fifth installment of the best fighting game of all time. And as such, they couldn't miss introducing new characters and fighting systems. Meet the new characters of Street Fighter V.
The Road to Street Fighter V
It's been seven years since the release of Street Fighter IV, which reignited the passion of the franchise's fans. Since its launch, we've seen several updates, the latest being the Ultra edition that came out around the middle of last year. With the original game fully explored, Capcom decided to start working on the fifth installment. Fortunately, information wasn't long in coming, and we already know that Street Fighter V will feature sixteen characters, four of which are new to the series. Let's meet the first of them:
The New Fighters
Necalli is one of the new fighters making his debut in Street Fighter V. His name comes from the Aztecs (Nahuatl), which suggests the character could be from Mexico or Central America. Rashid is another new character. He's known to be the eldest son of an ancient Middle Eastern family, searching for a missing friend, unaware that he's been kidnapped by Bison's Shadaloo organization. The other two characters haven't been revealed yet. If the number of fighters seems small, don't worry—after the game's release, several characters will be added through periodic updates.
New Fighting Mechanics
Another novelty in Street Fighter V is the V-Gauge system, which allows each character to perform three specific abilities. The game also includes the EX meter introduced in Street Fighter III, which lets you use super combos or the special moves characteristic of each fighter, eliminating the Focus Attack from the previous game. Street Fighter V is being developed by Capcom and will be available on PlayStation 4 and Windows. An interesting detail is that Capcom will allow cross-play between Sony's console and PC. For now, the game doesn't have a concrete release date, but it's expected to launch in March 2016.
