Just over two years have passed since the launch of Nintendo's hybrid console, which was an absolute success with more than 35 million sales. Thanks to that and after several rumors, the Japanese company decided to launch a more basic version with fewer features, smaller and obviously with a lower price than the original Switch. At NeoTeo we welcome the Nintendo Switch Lite, the new purely portable console from Nintendo.
A Portable-Only Design
The new Nintendo console will be lighter, smaller and intended for use only as a portable, since we will not have the chance to connect it to a TV via HDMI, one of the most important features of the original Switch. The screen will go from 6.2 inches to 5.5 but will not lose resolution. One of the most controversial decisions is removing vibration and infrared sensors (they can be integrated using Joy-Con), factors necessary for some applications. Regarding the rest of the connections, Switch Lite is compatible with Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC and motion controls.
Gameplay and Compatibility
Regarding gameplay, this new version of Nintendo's console will have fixed controls, so other Joy-Con cannot be attached, although we will be able to use them outside the console. It also allows us to connect with other Switches using a local connection. Compatibility with titles released on Switch will be 100% and, according to Nintendo, there will be no distinctions between games regarding performance.
Price and Release
In short, this Lite version of the successful Nintendo Switch cannot be connected to a TV and its controls will be attached to the screen of the handheld, but it will be lighter, more resistant and will have a launch price of $199, placing it $100 below its big sister. Without a doubt, this is a new challenge for Nintendo, which has known how to make alternative versions of its consoles with satisfactory results, so we hope that Switch Lite does not disappoint.
Nintendo Switch Lite will debut on September 20 of this year, with the addition that a version of the console based on Pokémon Sword and Shield will be released, as well as versions in yellow, silver and turquoise. What do you think?
