During the official presentation of Nintendo Switch, our friend Ferzzola shared a comprehensive report on Nintendo's new console. Still, many questions remain: technical specifications, battery life, release date, launch games, and of course the price. Some of these are still a mystery, but others have been revealed. To start, Nintendo confirmed that the dock, known as the Switch Dock, is not the main unit.
The Console and Its Dock
The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the Switch Console, which has the LCD screen. The Switch Dock is simply a charging and TV connection base. Regarding compatibility, it was clarified that Nintendo Switch will not support physical Wii U or 3DS games. Nintendo says there is a possibility of playing previous-generation games through digital purchases via the e-Shop. The console comes with two removable controllers called Joy-Con (specifically Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R) that can be attached to the LCD screen. In fact, the two controllers can be detached to become small controllers for playing with friends.
Games and Support
Besides titles from Mario, Link, and Pikachu, many other companies are joining to develop games for Nintendo Switch. Sega, Activision, EA, Capcom, Ubisoft, and Square Enix are just some of them. It remains to be seen whether the games will look as good graphically as on Sony and Microsoft consoles. In fact, Epic Games confirmed via its Twitter account that Nintendo Switch will have support for Unreal Engine 4. Finally, Amiibo figures will also be supported on the new console, allowing you to unlock certain game modes in compatible titles.
