There are cosplayers who prepare their costumes with blood and sweat for every convention, and then we reach the level of the Guinness. The idea that a cosplay could set a record is curious, but this happened in Ireland, where a certain Julian Checkley created a Batman costume so advanced that it features 23 different functions, from smoke bombs and hidden microphones to tracking devices and a fireball launcher.
The Changing Face of Cosplay
The concept of cosplay has changed a lot in recent years. Gone are phrases like "there go the costumed geeks", especially when we consider that comics have taken cinema by storm, conventions move millions of fans a year, and money keeps flowing. However, there is a question in the world of cosplay that is repeated more and more: where does amateur end and professional begin? Some people are truly talented, and their handmade creations, one stitch at a time, are testaments to the dedication and passion they feel for cosplay, but today we already find models who dedicate themselves exclusively to cosplay, and companies that finance complete costumes.
The Record-Breaking Costume
What we have here today is a mix of both. The creator of this Batman costume started as a very young cosplayer, became a professional working in film, and now creates custom costumes. The difference is that his Batman costume has just set a new record in the Gamer edition of the Guinness Book under the category "most functional gadgets in a cosplay costume". Needless to say, the costume of the famous billionaire night vigilante is ideal for that category, and its developer Julian Checkley managed to install a total of 23 devices. Some have an essentially aesthetic role, like the fireball launcher (which keeps the flames to a minimum) and the bat signal projector, but the video screen on the wrist, the tracking signal, and the gas launcher do their job very well.
The Batman costume has had many variants in the past, and Checkley’s version is inspired by the one from the game "Batman: Arkham Origins". I find it very difficult for anyone to beat this record, unless they design a full Iron Man suit that allows them to fly and take down aliens...
