The Return of the Zombies in House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn

Sega is giving the final touches to its new installment of the iconic series The House of the Dead. Unholster your weapon, sharpen your reflexes and enjoy the return of the zombies in House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn in arcades.

Released in 1997 for the arcades and later adapted to consoles and computers, The House of the Dead introduced us to the Curien mansion, which was invaded by all kinds of creatures created by a mad scientist. Thus began this iconic series of rail shooters with a horror theme that, since then, has expanded to consoles, mobile devices, and films, among other media. Now Sega Interactive has announced House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn for arcades, being the seventh installment in the series (following the official canon).

The game was presented at the end of last month at the Sega Akihabara Building 3 in Tokyo, Japan. The story of House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn takes place in 2006, three years after the end of The House of the Dead 4 (2005). Now Kate Green, former partner of James Taylor, joins forces with James's younger brother, Ryan Taylor, in a secret mission where a dinner event takes place inside the Scarecrow mansion, until "The Mystery Man" (who debuted in The House of the Dead III) unleashes his own army of creatures on the guests, and very soon on the world.

Regarding gameplay, the game maintains the same elements that characterize the series: rail shooting as you eliminate the creatures that lurk. Developed with Unreal Engine 4, House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn promises a new horror experience inside a cabinet equipped with effects including air cannons and seat vibration, which are activated based on the player's progress. It also has a motion sensor that lights up the outside of the cabinet to attract players walking by. If interest in the game increases, it is possible that there will be an adaptation for current consoles and computers. House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn is being developed by Sega and will be available on Japanese arcade machines. The game does not have a concrete release date but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2018.
