Upon entering the site, a small description warns us that Tilde Club is not a social network, but a small Unix-based server, the operating system that serves as the foundation of GNU/Linux and also Mac OS. Users can create their own web pages for free using the basic command-line tool. All you have to do is register and wait for them to assign you a space, since due to high demand a waiting list has been implemented (quite long, by the way). Once that's done, they'll assign you a username and password to upload your own content.
An interesting detail is that this service includes a webring that lets you randomly visit sites hosted there (a system widely used back then). The person behind it is Paul Ford, a writer, editor, and programmer, who details that the name tilde.club is a reference to the symbols that designate user pages separated in websites from the 90s. Tilde Club has the support of the community, who contribute their two cents by donating a few dollars.
