In an account published October 24, 2026, ZDNET reported that Gemini Personal Intelligence found destinations from email, an earlier conversation and Google Photos, then started navigation without confirming the chosen place in the tasks its reporter tried. In one example, it found a parking-deck address in a football-game pass PDF in Gmail and began navigation in less than 10 seconds.
What Gemini found in the reported tasks
The examples drew on different kinds of personal context. ZDNET reported that Gemini found a dentist appointment in email, a coffee shop mentioned in an earlier conversation and a family pumpkin-patch destination through Google Photos. These were destination-finding tasks, not a broad measure of how reliably the feature handles every request.
Navigation began without confirmation in those tasks
In the tasks ZDNET described, Gemini started navigation without first asking the reporter to confirm the destination. That matters when a request could point to more than one place: in those examples, the chosen destination went straight into navigation. The finding applies to the tasks the reporter tried.
ZDNET also reported that Gemini could compose or respond to a text, but could not retrieve information from text messages to answer other tasks.
What Personal Intelligence can use
Google says Personal Intelligence can use information from services a user chooses to connect, including Gmail and Google Calendar through Workspace, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube and Search. Users opt in to app connections and can turn the feature off in Gemini settings.
Without Personal Intelligence, Google says Android Auto still supports navigation, music, calls and general questions. The difference is that answers do not use context from connected apps. Android Auto connects a phone to a car’s display; Google built-in is software integrated into a vehicle. Google said on October 20 that cars with Google built-in were scheduled for a later phase in the coming months.
US eligibility and rollout
Google’s Android Auto rollout began on October 20, 2026. The United States is not among the locations Google named as excluded, so eligible personal accounts there are within the geographic scope. Eligibility is limited to personal Google accounts belonging to people aged 18 or older; Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts are excluded. Google described a gradual rollout, so geographic eligibility does not mean the feature has reached every account.
