The Demake Concept
The demake concept is one of the most interesting concepts we've seen, especially when exploring the curious world of bootlegs, but what we have here today is… different. Technically, the Doom and Diablo franchises belong to the same era. Doom 2 hit shelves in 1994, while Diablo 1 did so in December 1996. The original Diablo didn't age as well as its second installment, but that led to high-definition mods and an alternative version created inside Diablo 3. On the other hand, Doom 2 is one of the most modded games on the market, with ports that allow it to run almost anywhere.
Doomiablo in Action
That said, what are the chances of combining both? Personally, I wouldn't mind Blizzard experimenting with a “Diablo FPS” (difficult, since nowadays everyone dances to Overwatch's tune), but YouTube user DolloM decided to go the other route and try Doom 2 with isometric perspective. The result is Doomiablo, a demo currently at build 0.1.0. Unfortunately, there aren't many technical details about it beyond graphics and interface; however, the basics seem quite polished, including enemy drops, the “gore” when they die, and the movements in general.
Feedback and Future
The next step for Doomiablo is to gather feedback. What kind of adjustments it needs, and which elements it must absolutely incorporate. The first suggestions point to something simple: a name change. “Doomiablo” doesn't sound all that great, and I think “Diabloom” is even worse. The potential of its multiplayer mode is quite broad, and it might become a priority, as long as its development continues.
