Prometheus was a disaster. Alien: Covenant improved a lot (essentially thanks to Fassbender's carry), but the bar wasn't very high, to say the least. What's next for the Alien franchise? If we go by what this teaser for Alien: Romulus shows… return to the beginning. To the dense and dark atmosphere, the infinite corridors, the terror of the unknown, and of course, the desperation of the survivors.
At the helm of this film is Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Álvarez, known for Evil Dead (2013), Don’t Breathe, and the short Ataque de Pánico!. Online comments have been very positive so far, and they highlight certain similarities with Alien: Isolation. Add to that the chronological detail, since Romulus places us between Alien and Aliens, just like the game. Personally, it also reminded me of the anthology of shorts for the 40th anniversary, which definitely deserves your attention. (August 16, in theaters.)
