Most media players include an integrated system for automatic subtitle search and download, which essentially reduces the whole process to a background task, but there's always that odd case that requires a bit more attention. That's when Subloader steps in, an open-source, lightweight, and minimalistic application that connects to the OpenSubtitles database and presents the best results in a matter of seconds.
Some years ago, finding subtitles on the Web was a mix of art and pilgrimage. Incomplete translations and synchronization problems were the order of the day, and many users ended up performing major surgery on the handful of files they obtained, trying to improve their experience. Today, fortunately, things have improved. It's very likely that if you decide to download a video, the subtitles are already integrated into its structure (courtesy of the Matroska container), but if not, you can always use Subloader.
How to download subtitles with Subloader
Subloader is a development by Luka Budrak, and it has a very simple appearance, without excess. All you have to do is load the video into the interface and wait a moment. The program accesses the OpenSubtitles database and searches for subtitles based on two parameters: Name and hash. Personally, I have had better results using the video's name as a reference, since the hash gave a couple of false positives during my test. Some users do not hesitate to share "recompressed" versions of certain videos, and the original hash is lost.
The advanced configuration section in Subloader only allows us to prioritize languages. For example, if you want the search to be limited to English and Spanish, it is enough to move both entries to the left side of the interface. Subloader installs in the traditional way on the computer, and you may need to download .NET Core version 3.1, especially if you use a version of Windows prior to 10. If for some reason the automatic subtitle search stops working on your favorite player or gives bad results, Subloader is an excellent alternative.
