On September 16, 2026, iOS 27.2 beta 1 added French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish to Siri AI. The update expands the assistant beyond its initial English support, but it does not bring Siri AI to iPhones or iPads in the European Union. Apple’s EU platform split remains: eligible Macs and Vision Pro devices can use the feature, while iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 cannot.
iOS 27.2 beta adds five Siri AI languages
The first iOS 27.2 developer beta adds five languages to Siri AI:
- French
- Japanese
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Spanish
English was the initial supported language. The beta language expansion matters for users who can access Siri AI, but language support and regional platform availability are separate gates. A Spanish-language option on iOS 27.2 does not override the EU restriction on iPhone and iPad.
Why this is not an EU iPhone launch
Apple’s published EU availability rules still exclude Siri AI from iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and watchOS 27 at the initial rollout. That means an eligible iPhone can meet the hardware, software and language requirements and still lack Siri AI when its Apple Account region is in the EU.
Apple says the delay is connected to privacy and security concerns around the Digital Markets Act’s interoperability requirements. The company’s position is that comparable system-level access for competing assistants could create new risks. The European Commission disputes that interpretation: its position is that the Digital Markets Act does not prohibit Apple from launching products, but does prohibit market-closing restrictions.
Apple has said there is no current timeline for Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS in the EU.
Where Siri AI works in the EU
The initial EU rollout is split across Apple’s platforms:

On a supported Mac or Vision Pro, Siri AI includes personal-context understanding, onscreen awareness, broader world knowledge, systemwide app actions, Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence and a dedicated Siri app with iCloud-synced conversation history.
What the restriction affects beyond Siri
The iPhone exclusion reaches into Apple’s wider AI ecosystem. Some Apple Watch Audio Intelligence capabilities depend on an eligible iPhone, and hands-free Siri features for AirPods are also affected in the EU. The result is a fragmented experience: Apple’s AI features can be available on one device while remaining absent from the iPhone that normally coordinates the ecosystem.
EU users have also pushed for access to Apple’s own assistant, arguing that they chose the company’s integrated devices and privacy model. Others focus on the loss of continuity between Apple products, including features such as iPhone Mirroring.
How to activate Siri AI on a supported device
On a supported device, the activation path is:
- Install the required operating-system update.
- Open Settings and select Siri.
- Choose Try Siri AI (Beta).
- Select a voice and complete voice enrollment.
- Review the privacy settings and join the waitlist.
The waitlist and setup screens do not change the EU platform rules. On an EU iPhone or iPad, the regional restriction still applies.
What happens next
Apple has said that Siri AI will expand beyond English during October 2026. The iOS 27.2 beta brings the five additional languages into testing, while the separate EU platform restriction remains in place for iPhone and iPad.
