What the patents cover
The patents concern tactile transducers: components that produce vibrations a person can feel. In this case, the patented technology involves low-frequency, bass-like vibrations, and the accused Apple products use the company’s Taptic Engine for haptic feedback.
Apple’s response
Apple said it disagreed with the verdict and damages, arguing that Taptic Engine works on fundamentally different principles from Taction’s technology. The company said it would appeal.
Products and the case’s path to trial
A district court opinion dated August 11, 2026, described more than 50 accused products. It discussed testing involving iPhone SE, iPhone 8, iPhone XS, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 Pro Max, and listed later-added products including the iPhone 15 family, iPhone 16 family—including iPhone 16e—the iPhone 17 family, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Apple Watch SE (3rd generation). The parties stipulated that Apple Watch Series 3 does not infringe.
Taction filed its lawsuit on April 26, 2021. The district court granted Apple summary judgment of non-infringement in 2023; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit vacated that ruling and sent the case back in 2025. Trial began on September 14, 2026, and the jury returned its verdict on September 25.
