Mobile Games of the Week: Bottom of the 9th, Galaxy of Pen & Paper, Part Time UFO, and War Tortoise
War Tortoise

Bottom of the 9th

Instead of capturing the feel of a full nine-inning baseball game, Bottom of the 9th is a smart board game that combines cards and strategy with dice and action. This time, your team is in its final at-bats against the visiting team. You'll set your lineup of pitchers and batters, each with their own special abilities and favorite quadrants. From there, tactical decisions and dice rolls determine the final score. Developed by Handelabra Games, Bottom of the 9th is available on iOS and Android.

Galaxy of Pen & Paper

Swap your swords for blasters in Behold Studios' latest RPG parody. Galaxy of Pen & Paper retains the retro pixel art style of Knights of Pen & Paper and its delicious sense of humor, but now the action moves to outer space. It lovingly parodies sci-fi games, books, and movies, and adds a ton of new gameplay elements to the series' old turn-based system, including space battles, branching stories, and planetary exploration. Developed by Behold Studios, Galaxy of Pen & Paper is available on iOS and Android.

Part Time UFO

The Japanese studio behind legends like Kirby and Super Smash Brothers is going mobile. Part Time UFO, from HAL Laboratory, is an adorable physics game where an alien UFO performs odd jobs and errands while traveling the Earth to help its citizens. Using an extendable metal claw and skillful ship handling, you'll transport cargo, solve physics puzzles, and engage in cartoonish battles to earn money. Developed by HAL Laboratory, Part Time UFO is available on iOS and Android.

Sunless Sea

If you enjoy survival exploration games with rich storytelling and complex depths, Sunless Sea from Failbetter Games is an experience you shouldn't miss. You are the captain of a steamship, taking on passengers and negotiating jobs, trying to rise from humble beginnings to a high seas captain according to your character's goals. This means accumulating wealth, fighting horrible monsters, managing resources and crew, and making story decisions along the way. Developed by Failbetter Games, Sunless Sea is available exclusively on iOS.

War Tortoise

I don't know where the idea for War Tortoise came from, but honestly, this whole game is wonderful. It's a kind of tower defense where you have to defend your armed tortoise (why does a tortoise need armor?) against invading hordes of other small creatures, like rats and enemy beetles. You do this with a variety of weapons and troops you can upgrade, including snipers, air support, and heavy units. After a while, you can automate the battle process, and the game becomes about upgrading your tortoise and units to dispatch waves efficiently and move on to the next generation of more powerful tortoises. Developed by Foursaken Media, War Tortoise is available on iOS and Android.
