The Nov. 6 Season 1 patch notes say Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s Performance Mode (120Hz) is open to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players with 120Hz displays, regardless of variable refresh rate (VRR) support. The notes still recommend VRR for the best experience. Read the official Season 1 patch notes.

A 120Hz display is the stated eligibility condition; VRR remains recommended, not required.

How VRR connections differed by console

In an Oct. 21 report, Digital Foundry said PS5 VRR used HDMI 2.1, while Xbox Series X could support VRR over HDMI 2.0 on some displays. The distinction concerns VRR connectivity; the Season 1 notes name both console families and make VRR optional under the stated 120Hz rule.
