Specifications reported on September 20 put Monster Hunter Wilds at a 30 FPS target across three Nintendo Switch 2 modes. The two docked options use different resolutions, while the handheld mode is listed at 1536×864. Capcom schedules pre-orders to begin October 20, 2026, and the game’s release for December 4, 2026.
Three reported modes for TV and handheld play
The listed modes share a 30 FPS target. In docked play, resolution-priority mode is reported at 2240×1260, while performance-priority mode is 1920×1080. The handheld mode is listed at 1536×864.
| Mode | Reported resolution | Reported frame-rate target |
| Docked, resolution priority | 2240×1260 | 30 FPS |
| Docked, performance priority | 1920×1080 | 30 FPS |
| Handheld | 1536×864 | 30 FPS |
The performance-priority mode trades the higher listed resolution for a frame rate reported to be significantly more stable. The same technical report says ray tracing is unavailable in all three listed modes.
What the Tokyo Game Show demo showed
A Monster Hunter Wilds demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026 showed a “Frame Rate Limit” setting with an “Off” option. The footage also includes gameplay. The menu option is a detail of the demonstrated build.
Capcom lists crossplay for the Switch 2 version, as well as local co-op via local communication. Capcom identifies that local-play feature as unique to this version.
How the Switch 2 port began
Producer Genki Sunano said development on the port began around June 2025. The first test found that the game would not run on Switch 2; the team investigated options and repeated tests. Full-scale development began around late 2025, after staff became available from work on other platforms.
Sunano described the approach as optimizing individual parts of the game to avoid a degraded version. Capcom executive director and art director Kaname Fujioka also discussed restoring quality from a build that had reached only minimal functionality. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said the development period exceeded a year, without specifying exact start and end dates.
