Windows 11 is coming at full speed. Microsoft hasn't confirmed its exact release date yet, but all arrows point to October 2021 , and the major hardware manufacturers have already enabled different levels of support through new drivers. First it was Intel with graphics drivers for its sixth-generation processors or higher, and today we can confirm they are not alone. The new Nvidia driver for Windows 11 expands support for its DLSS technology, marking a starting point for any user who wants to update their drivers.
With the announcement of a new operating system, there is always a crisis period associated with the lack of drivers. Sometimes we can get by using versions available for the previous operating system, but there is always that bug or compatibility conflict that throws our sanity out the window. Fortunately, both Microsoft and the most important hardware manufacturers seem to have learned the lesson, and their current levels of cooperation are much more complete.
For example, Windows 11 has no confirmed release date, but Intel already anticipated its launch with updated video drivers. In fact, its support is the first thing the company mentions in the release notes, leaving compatibility with F1 2021 and other optimizations in the background. Who is next on the list? Beyond Windows 11, the Nvidia announcement for its brand-new driver focuses on other aspects, starting with the inclusion of DLSS in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Chernobylite. Under ideal conditions, the use of DLSS can increase RDR2 performance by 45 percent, with minimal quality loss. In the case of Chernobylite, the jump is up to 80 percent depending on graphics card and resolution. Chernobylite will leave Early Access on July 28.
The rest of the announcement talks about 13 new games with optimization presets under GeForce Experience, among which stand out NieR Replicant and Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, and two new Samsung monitors with G-Sync validation. The new Nvidia driver for Windows 11 also works on previous versions of Windows going back to Windows 7, and the GPU support list remains intact with the GeForce 600 series as the base. The most important changes will occur in October 2021, when Nvidia stops support for Kepler cards, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, unless they need critical security updates.
