On September 22, 2026, NVIDIA announced that RTX Mega Geometry SDK 2.0 adds support for streaming continuous level-of-detail (LOD) clusters for high-density ray-traced meshes. The update’s Cluster LOD path selects pre-baked triangle clusters from a continuous hierarchy and streams them into video memory (VRAM) on demand.

What RTX Mega Geometry SDK 2.0 changes

Cluster LOD breaks dense geometry into pre-baked triangle clusters arranged by level of detail. The sample selects clusters from that hierarchy and streams them into VRAM as needed. That’s the new capability NVIDIA highlighted for SDK 2.0.

NVIDIA’s RTXMG sample also supports Cluster Tessellation, a separate path that tessellates and displaces subdivision surfaces on the fly.

How Cluster LOD uses its VRAM budget

The RTXMG sample sets adjustable default memory pools for streamed geometry, cluster acceleration structures (CLAS), and material textures. CLAS are structures used to accelerate ray tracing.

The sample’s runtime requirements are Windows 10, an NVIDIA RTX GPU with at least 10 GB of VRAM, GeForce Game Ready Driver 570 or later, and DirectX Raytracing 1.1 or later. RTXMG supports DX12 and Vulkan; its available builds are for Windows.

What NVIDIA’s Zorah sample measures

NVIDIA’s textured Zorah asset contains 1.6 billion unique triangles and 18.9 billion instanced triangles, along with 2,034 meshes and 4,357 textures. Building its LOD hierarchy on first load can use up to 64 GB of system RAM at peak.

For a Zorah courtyard view, NVIDIA reports results from an RTX 5090 at 4K with DLSS Quality: 15.5 milliseconds per frame, 1.5 GB of resident mesh data, and 2.3 GB of CLAS. That view contains 56 million unique triangles and 778 million instanced triangles.
