NVIDIA released RTX Remix 1.6 on October 23, 2026, adding an experimental Fabric mod for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1. The beta requires Windows 10 or 11, a GeForce RTX 30-series or newer GPU, and NVIDIA driver 616.92 or later. NVIDIA tuned it against one showcase world, so game version and mod compatibility matter alongside the hardware.
Check the requirements before installing
The Minecraft beta runs on Windows 10 or 11 with an x64 or ARM64 processor. You also need Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 on a Microsoft account that owns the game, an internet connection during installation, and about 5 GB of free disk space while setup runs. After installation, about 3 GB remains in use. NVIDIA recommends 16 GB of system memory.
A GeForce RTX 3060 Ti falls within the stated RTX 30-series minimum. NVIDIA says parts of the game beyond the showcase world may run slowly, however, so meeting the GPU requirement does not guarantee the same experience in every world.
Install the beta
NVIDIA’s project README gives this sequence:
- Extract the release archive.
- Run
install.batand follow its menu. - Launch the NVIDIA RTX Remix for Minecraft profile from your launcher.
The installer sets up Java 21, Fabric, and the RTX Remix runtime. The project is an NVIDIA beta, not an official Minecraft product; it is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
The mod itself collects no data. Its bundled RTX Remix runtime can send basic session information and crash reports to NVIDIA. The First Use Guide asks about both, with both options enabled by default; you can change them in the Permissions tab of RTX Remix Graphics Settings.
The beta is tuned for one showcase world
BlockWorks built the world NVIDIA used to tune the renderer. The project has had limited testing with other mods, and NVIDIA says mods that change rendering or the chunk pipeline are likely to conflict. Blocks, mobs, dimensions, and situations outside the showcase may look wrong or run slowly. The beta targets Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1; ports to newer versions are a hoped-for community effort.
That scope makes this a better fit for trying the renderer in its showcase setting than for assuming a large modpack or a full playthrough will work as expected.
What path tracing adds to Minecraft
The mod uses a path tracer to light blocks, mobs, and items. It calculates light bouncing off surfaces, passing through glass, and spreading from torches. Time of day, weather, and underwater scenes affect the lighting, and in-game settings let players adjust distance, frame rate, sky, lighting, exposure, and materials.
The beta also adds a Copper Beacon, a directional light players can place or carry, and camera flythrough recording with replay. The showcase world and art pack are optional extras.
Other changes in RTX Remix 1.6
RTX Remix 1.6 adds DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering with live artistic controls, ComfyUI 2.0 workflows for generating textures and meshes, and Windows on Arm support. The release also adds 5× and 6× Multi Frame Generation options on supported hardware.
Those neural-rendering and frame-generation features are separate from the Minecraft beta’s setup requirements. For a separate look at RTX Spark and DLSS 5, see NeoTeo’s earlier coverage.
