Playden’s project release page dated stable version 0.7.0 to October 24, 2026, and 0.7.1-beta.3 to October 26. The newer build is labeled a beta of alpha software. Playden runs some Steam Windows games locally on a jailbroken PS5, but its compatibility results are specific tests, not broad performance guarantees.
How Playden runs Steam games on a PS5
Playden signs in to Steam, downloads games the user owns, and prepares a separate PS5 app and private Windows environment for each game. The games run locally through prospero-win, a PS5 port of Wine, rather than through a Linux boot or a PC stream. Each game can appear as its own tile on the PS5 home screen. Playden is an unofficial Steam client, and Valve does not support it. The Playden project documentation describes its architecture and requirements.
The System Decoded’s October 25, 2026, walkthrough shows file transfer, Steam sign-in, library browsing, and a game launch in the build demonstrated. Its creator said the PS5 controller did not work in that build; the project’s current documentation lists controller support.
What Playden’s “Works” label means
The project’s compatibility list uses “Works” for a game that reaches a menu and can be played with the listed input method. That label does not describe a complete playthrough or establish performance at a particular resolution or refresh rate.
The project lists Cyberpunk 2077 as “Works” after a 13-minute session using runtime kit 0.11 and Direct3D 12 through vkd3d-proton. The test ran at 1920×1080, used about 3 GB of video memory, and reported no crash. It gives no frame-rate result.
Playden supports output options including 3840×2160 resolution and 120 Hz output. Those settings do not establish that a particular game runs well at 4K or 120 frames per second. The project also says online play through Playden does not work; kernel anti-cheat and some third-party launchers or DRM prevent certain games from running. Its compatibility list defines the labels and records the game-specific tests.
Firmware and controller support
The Playden project says it tests on PS5 firmware 13.60 and labels other firmware versions untested. Its setup also relies on jailbreak helpers loaded after each boot: kstuff-lite 1.11, ShadowMountPlus v1.7-beta5fix1 or v1.7beta2, and elfldr v0.26.
The project’s current documentation lists DualSense support through XInput and other Windows input APIs, with rumble; games see the controller as an Xbox controller. USB keyboards and mice are also supported. The controller limitation described in the October 25 walkthrough applies to the build shown there, not to the feature set listed in the project’s current documentation.
Steam credentials and cloud saves
Playden says it stores Steam sign-in tokens on the console without encryption and reads and writes Steam Cloud saves. The project warns that console file access could expose the token and that a game or synchronization bug could overwrite cloud saves.
