Most average users rely on two separate programs to capture screenshots and record desktop activity. However, those seeking a dual-purpose solution can try Screeny, which also includes a basic graphic editor, options for adding shadows or watermarks, and a "whiteboard mode".
Capturing screens is a fundamental resource for any project. In the middle of last year we explored the most important ones, and our readers suggested several extra names. It's difficult to switch tools once we feel comfortable, especially since it's not something too advanced. But at the same time, it's not a market that stays still. There is plenty of room for innovation and unifying functions, a positive strategy as long as it is applied appropriately.
A screen capture tool that goes beyond its basic role is Screeny. Besides capturing, Screeny also records our actions on the desktop, ideal if we want to create tutorials or explain certain actions. The free version's format is AVI, while the Pro edition enables access to alternatives like FLV and Windows Media Video. Screeny lets us modify the capture shortcut (in case "Print Screen" is awkward), add borders, shadows, and watermarks to images, transfer the final result via FTP or email, and apply touch-ups with its integrated graphic editor. Finally, we must highlight its whiteboard mode, which transforms our desktop into a whiteboard where we can draw and write.
The installation process of Screeny is carried out in German, but the general interface has English and Spanish translations. Although they are not as polished as we would like, it is enough to start working.
