Any user would like to think that Microsoft already got what it needed from Windows 10 in terms of telemetry and background transfers, but that's not the case. The "software as a service" policy means the operating system keeps sharing details with the mothership in Redmond, and although in the past we've explored some options to free yourself from Windows 10 spying, today it's the turn of ShutUp10, one of the most popular tools.
We still believe, or rather, we keep hoping that Microsoft will change its mind. That it will make available a Windows 10 download without the garbage that accompanies it. That we won't be forced to battle with strange PowerShell scripts, and that we won't depend on external software to remove its built-in programs. Windows 10 turned three years old last month, and users still have to run the scalpel over the operating system as if it were the first day. Redmond insists that the telemetry situation improved, and that it needs less data than before... but the official option to disable it still doesn't exist in standard versions. Once again, we have to take control of the operating system, and for that we'll use ShutUp10, developed by O&O.
ShutUp10 presents an intuitive and easy-to-use interface based on a series of switches. When a switch is red, the configuration is the same as the Windows 10 default, while green switches indicate protection. Each item has a description that we can access by clicking (the cursor transforms into a question mark), and on the right there is a column identified as "Recommended". The creators of ShutUp10 understand that not all modifications are ideal for system stability, so it's better to click carefully, or only apply the recommended changes.
ShutUp10 doesn't require any installation and runs directly. The nature of Windows 10 means the program needs frequent updates, but it presents no problems on the latest build 1803 (also known as Spring Creators Update).
