From Discord to OBS, through Nvidia, AMD and the operating system itself, the software offering is huge... but many users prefer faster and simpler solutions. Record Your Screen in Windows with Simple Screen Recorder
When running the application for the first time, we find an interface with three sections. The first is dedicated to Controls, to start and stop recording, and to access the destination folder. The second section is for Video Settings, with the possibility of choosing the encoder (for example, MPEG-4 or NVENC on Nvidia graphics cards), and the capture resolution on the monitor. Finally, the third section is dedicated entirely to Audio Settings. Simple Screen Recorder offers functions to record only system audio, only the microphone, or both sources at once. If you have more than one audio device or microphone on your PC, you can select them at the bottom.
Other very important elements in Simple Screen Recorder are file mixing and independent audio recording. The program records audio and video separately, in WAV and AVI formats respectively. File mixing just unifies them under a Matroska container, thus guaranteeing their compatibility with the main players. Independent audio recording is exactly what it sounds like: a secondary interface, but without video options.
As it is a development that is taking its first steps, Simple Screen Recorder has some limitations. First, we cannot focus the recording on a specific window, and it will work in fullscreen mode whether we like it or not. Then we discover the absence of support for secondary displays, and it always records the content of "monitor 1" in Windows. Third, there are no compression codecs that allow reducing the size of the video, and finally, it requires the installation of .NET 7.0 Desktop Runtime on the computer. Anyway, I think it's worth keeping an eye on Simple Screen Recorder and studying its evolution.
