Earlier this year, a new Star Wars game hit arcades, but that exclusivity is coming to an end. Bandai Namco has announced it will release a home version of Star Wars Battle Pod.
The Arcade Experience
Launched in January 2015 for arcades, Star Wars Battle Pod immerses players in a galaxy far, far away, letting them relive iconic scenes from the original trilogy. This simulator, housed in a dome-shaped cabinet with a curved screen, allows you to pilot some of the most memorable vehicles in the Star Wars universe, including Rebel X-wing and Snowspeeder starfighters, as well as the Empire's swift Speeder Bikes. Missions take you through environments such as the frozen planet Hoth, the forest moon of Endor, and the inevitable Death Star.
A Home Version Is Coming
Arcades are scarce these days, and you've probably wished you could own one of these machines. Good news: Bandai Namco, the company behind the game, has announced a home version of Star Wars Battle Pod. The machines will be available to order starting in June and will come in two models. The first is the standard version, the same cabinet found in arcades, priced at $35,000. The second is the Premium edition, available in two designs: one featuring the Rebel Alliance and another adorned with Darth Vader. This deluxe version includes the owner's name displayed on the machine and in the game's end credits, along with custom carpeting. Its price? A cool $100,000, truly a collector's edition.
