The Last of Us is without a doubt one of the best games available for the PlayStation 3, and as expected it found a privileged place on the PlayStation 4 through a remastered edition.
Naughty Dog spent over a year denying the possibility of a sequel, and with many resources diverted toward the Uncharted saga, continuing the story of Ellie and Joel seemed complicated, but last Saturday they surprised everyone with the brand-new trailer for The Last of Us Part II.
Many players found the ending of The Last of Us a bit more ambiguous than usual, but overall there were no complaints. In fact, it was an excellent close that didn't stop the specialized press from declaring The Last of Us “game of the year” on multiple occasions. The additional content distributed in DLCs, the Left Behind expansion, and an official comic helped expand the universe within the game, but the underlying question remained: When’s the sequel?
After the launch of Left Behind, the folks at Naughty Dog downplayed any continuation. The complex situation of its film adaptation (in short, completely stalled) and the demands associated with developing Uncharted 4 (which debuted in May) kept pushing back any intention of creating a second part... however, all that was left behind last Saturday during the PlayStation Experience event. The Last of Us Part II is a fact, and here’s its trailer:

Much to see and analyze in just four minutes of video. Let’s start with the obvious: Ellie is furious. Her wounds, her trembling hands, and her song beginning with Psalm 23:4 put us on guard immediately, and we can easily interpret that she killed all the inhabitants of that house. Joel enters with a revolver in hand, although fans have begun to speculate that Joel is actually dead, manifesting as a vision for Ellie. What gives us goosebumps is Ellie’s response. She has venom in her voice and blood in her eyes, but who does she want to kill? The Fireflies?
I’m afraid we’ll have to wait a while to find out. Saga director Neil Druckmann simply added that Ellie will be the main character, and that The Last of Us Part II is conceived as “a game about hate”. Dates? None of that, too soon.
