Are you a hardcore Star Wars fan? Is Darth Vader your favorite character? Then this Star Wars watch that costs $28,500 has to be yours. Without a doubt, a watch—and a price—from another galaxy!
With the imminent release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 18, it was only a matter of time before we saw all kinds of products related to the new film. During the so-called 'Force Friday' on September 4, we saw the BB-8 droid toy, but there were also new developments on the technology side. We're talking about a collaboration between Disney and Lucasfilm with Devon Timepieces, an American watch company, who have presented the Star Wars watch that costs $28,500 and will be a limited edition of five hundred units.
As you can see, the iconic villain of the original trilogy, Darth Vader, along with his TIE fighter, were the inspiration for this watch's design. The octagonal wings of the TIE fighter became side parts of the watch, the chest panel of Darth Vader's suit is covered in red and green on the engines, and the wheel bears the Imperial logo, among several other details that fans of the galactic universe will appreciate. On more technical details, the Devon StarWars is composed of three hundred fifty pieces, four engines, and a processor that manages three hundred thirteen electrical contacts.
The battery lasts up to two weeks and charges wirelessly. At first glance, it seems that with such a design we'll find a new technological innovation. Not at all. The watch uses as a base the Devon Tread 1 and 2 models, which use nylon straps reinforced with glass, so technically there's nothing new. The difference is purely aesthetic.
From the Devon Timepieces website, pre-orders for the Devonworks StarWars are already available, which will be delivered starting October 1, 2015, along with a set of TIE fighter cufflinks (also known as collars or studs). What can be said, an edition only for collectors.
